About The Position

Michiana Behavioral Health, a UHS facility, provides care to adults, children, and teens experiencing emotional crisis and mental distress. The Utilization Management Specialist handles calls, investigative work, and clinical reviews with insurance companies, managed care entities, and external reviewers. The role also assists with discharge-planning statistical collection and provides general support to the department.

Requirements

• One to three years of healthcare experience required.
• Knowledge of regulatory and insurance requirements.
• Excellent documentation skills.
• Ability to advocate for patients’ rights and treatment.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Certification in Utilization Management.

Responsibilities

• Process admissions into the utilization management system.
• Conduct admission and concurrent reviews.
• Maintain statistics and data as requested or required.
• Attend Treatment Team meetings.
• Assist physicians with calls as needed.
• Handle calls, investigative work, and clinical reviews with insurance companies, managed care entities, and external reviewers.
• Assist with discharge-planning statistical collection and provide general department support.
