About The Position

We are currently looking for Utilityworker II (Shift) as part of the Nova Scotia Power Line Inspector Program in Sydney. Key elements of this role include: Duties include but are not limited to: Regular travel to and from Transmission access points. You will also be required to maintain communications to the control authority. Reactive corrective damage assessment and relay access points to the field project leads to coordinate the response for repair. Preventative maintenance duties for off highway vehicles or company vehicles (pre-trips), environmental maintenance and control. You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province. You will be required to take training courses e.g.: in-house safety, environmental, vegetation identification, vehicle operation and off road vehicle certification and other training courses related to your position. You must be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives. You will demonstrate your knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and your responsibilities under the Act. You will take a very proactive approach to safety and will demonstrate your commitment to the Risk Assessment Process consistently. You will receive the required training to identify and inspect lines within the condition=based Distribution System and Transmission System, utilizing technology to facilitate inspections. This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Requirements

  • Grade XII education or equivalent.
  • Reading and writing skills necessary to perform the duties of the position safely and effectively.
  • Ability to perform heavy labour duties.
  • Demonstrated skills in general depot/yard/building cleanliness requirements.
  • Familiarity with and capability of using common hand and power tools.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
  • Minimum of two years driving experience.
  • Provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Capable of working in a variety of confined spaces using all appropriate personal protective equipment and other safety devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong environmental awareness and dedication.
  • Understanding and experience with recycling requirements and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with or certification in material handling using aerial devices like boom trucks.
