About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, performs the regular and recurring fueling and cleaning of the buses, using departmental equipment as authorized to accomplish the work, and maintains the District’s facilities. Shift subject to change per requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with passenger and airbrake endorsements must be obtained prior to hire date. Upon hire, RTD will provide paid training in preparation for commercial class B license and endorsements. This is a represented union position.

Requirements

  • Acceptable standards for routine cleaning.
  • Commercial cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.
  • Basic operation of work equipment and other cleaning equipment.
  • General safety practices related to work.
  • Proper use of cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies, including the use of various chemicals.
  • Application and proper use of cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform manual labor under dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather conditions.
  • Perform continuous physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, manipulation of and heavy lifting of departmental equipment.
  • Use cleaning materials with skill and efficiency.
  • Ability to work irregular shifts.
  • Maintain a positive and professional disposition, demeanor and attitude with all customers, co-workers, staff, and supervisors at all times.
  • Report to work as required and on time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class B driver license, with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least six (6) months of prior demonstrated experience in custodial, bus/car/facility service and cleanup.
  • Knowledge of general custodial service and cleaning procedures.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Good driving record.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Valid Class C California driver license or higher Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with passenger and airbrake endorsements must be obtained prior to hire date.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class B driver license, with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
  • An original DMV printout (driving history) must be provided for consideration.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb or balance.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift weights up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, manuals and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; learn and apply new information or skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; and interact with supervisors, employees, union stewards, vendors and others encountered in the course of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a public transit agency or governmental setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Clean bus equipment, including exterior washing, interior vacuuming, dusting, and washing windows.
  • Park buses after fueling.
  • Clean and inspect wheels on the fare boxes.
  • Empty and clean tops of trash containers; remove graffiti.
  • Service buses with fuel and oil.
  • Clean and maintain buses, building shop, and bus parking areas of RTD with the use of various shop equipment and devices.
  • Report defect in writing found while cleaning equipment and facilities.
  • Tighten loose mirrors as part of the Service Island Process.
  • Tighten signs in the field as part of the bus stop inspection process.
  • Perform and assist with road calls as required and other duties as assigned.
  • Follows all District procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous waste.
  • Operates in compliance with the District’s health and safety procedures.
