About The Position

The ASR Group® family of companies is the world's largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, producing a full line of grocery, industrial, foodservice, and specialty sweetener products. They operate sugar refineries across North America and Europe, and farm sugarcane and own sugar mills in Mexico and Belize. Their portfolio includes well-known brands such as Domino®, C&H®, Florida Crystals®, Redpath®, Tate & Lyle®, Lyle's®, Sidul®, and Whitworths®. ASR Group® also produces Tellus®, a compostable tableware product made from plant fibers. This position is responsible for packing and hand palletizing brown, powdered, and private label sugar in various bag sizes (1, 2, 7, 50 lbs.). The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and overtime as needed, with potential for mandated weekend shifts based on business requirements. This specific posting is for the 2nd shift, with a starting rate of $18.00/hour plus a $1.00/hour shift differential.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts as scheduled.
  • Must possess great attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced industrial environment.

  • Specific vision abilities required: Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, and Ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Pack finished goods into cases and place finished cases onto pallets (must be able to lift 50 lbs.).
  • Check individual packages for quality issues, including back seals, end seals, production date codes on bags and boxes, and ensuring bags and boxes contain the same item.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the production area around the assigned production line.
  • Open re-work, including daily and returned product, when necessary.
  • Assist the machine operator as needed, such as changing poly film and learning basic operations to stop/start the machine in case of problems.
  • Label boxes as necessary.
  • Differentiate between edible and non-edible product.
  • Assist in the cleaning of the plant as required.
  • Understand the basics of Metal Detectors regarding rejected bag handling and the fundamentals of the HACCP program.
  • Be vigilant for any product contamination and report any contamination or dangerous issues to the line operator or shift supervisor.
  • Work effectively to ensure food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality are maintained.
  • Report any risks or evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging, or raw materials to a designated manager for prompt resolution.
  • Assist in the plant as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
