About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking Utility Worker IIs to join their Wastewater Management Division team and support essential city services. This role involves performing semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on various construction, maintenance, and repair projects for new and existing sanitary and storm structures. The position requires working in and around traffic, assisting with sanitary jetting (including lifting and pulling open manholes up to 120lbs and potentially entering manholes with training), and assisting with Vac Trucks by lifting grates (up to 220lbs) and removing debris. Additionally, the role includes placing and removing traffic control devices, participating in snow removal, and assisting equipment operators with inspections. Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public, Understand highway traffic signs and signals, Respond to official inquiries, Make entries on reports and records.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL Permit or CDL B, preferred but not required.
  • Safety minded.
  • Knowledge of operating equipment and the use of small to medium hand tools.
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
  • Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects on new and existing sanitary and storm structures.
  • Assist equipment operators with pre and post trip inspections.
  • Work in and around traffic.
  • Assist with sanitary jetting which includes lifting and pulling open manholes (100-120lbs). And entering manholes with proper training.
  • Assist with Vac Trucks which includes pulling grates (~220lbs) from inlets and removing debris.
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement.
  • Participate in the snow removal.
