About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) enhances the quality of life in Denver by delivering public infrastructure and services. DOTI is committed to equity and focuses on areas of greatest need. The Street Maintenance division is responsible for keeping Denver’s streets and alleys safe, clean, and reliable year-round. This includes pothole repair, milling, paving, patching, alley maintenance, street sweeping, operating Denver’s asphalt plant, and leading the citywide snow response program. The Street Maintenance team is hiring Utility Worker II's to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Denver’s streets, alleys, and transportation network.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps.
  • Have a valid Driver's License.
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Commercial drivers must be able to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements within six (6) months of employment and must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
  • Operation of light weight motorized equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators.
  • Patch asphalt and paved areas.
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements.
  • Participate in snow removal duties.
