About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) enhances the quality of life in Denver by delivering public infrastructure and services. Street Maintenance is responsible for tasks such as filling potholes, repaving streets, sweeping streets, and snow removal. This division also manages the City’s asphalt plant. As a Utility Worker II, you will perform semi-skilled labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects, operate light motorized equipment and tools, and assist with general labor and safety tasks. You will also patch asphalt, place and remove traffic control devices, and participate in snow removal duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps
  • Have a valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.
  • One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public, Understand highway traffic signs and signals, Respond to official inquiries, Make entries on reports and records.

  • Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects
  • Operation of light weight motorized equipment and hand and power tools
  • Assist with general labor, safety, and related work tasks on a crew with Equipment Operators
  • Patch asphalt and paved areas
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements
  • Participate in snow removal duties.
