About The Position

The Utility Worker I will perform manual work of limited complexity and assist in the performance of semi-skilled or skilled tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work all shifts
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions
  • Ability to use appropriate tools and equipment
  • Physical capability to perform physical work outdoors in all weather
  • Ability to work with and around chemicals
  • Ability to work in confined spaces may be required
  • Ability to climb ladder of up to 60ft or down into a pit/vault
  • Ability to work in pairs, as a team or individually as assigned.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training preferred.
  • Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) PA Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment. A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in various projects or tasks requiring physical labor such as hosing mud in clarifier with a firehose, carrying various items, digging, physically moving, small construction jobs, lifting, setting up safety equipment and other labor related duties.
  • May operate a skid steer, forklift, snowplow, crane truck, remote overhead crane, truck of 1 ton or less as part of your regular duties.
  • Perform lawn maintenance on the treatment plant and at remote sites with various lawn equipment. Push/riding mowers, trimmers, chain saw, blower, weed eater, hole auger etc.
  • Perform chemical handling to transport on plant, transfer into tanks, totes or drums. Also performs chemical clean up or may assist in chemical repairs.
  • May be assigned to apply chemicals on treatment plant, remote sites and collect samples.
  • Perform facility custodial and janitorial duties indoors on the plant, offices and remote sites.
  • Clean outdoors at remote pump stations, equipment, grounds, snow removal and salt walkways.
  • Assist trades employees with repair, replace or preventative maintenance on various equipment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, pumps and other equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
  • May be asked to assist in traffic control during a project.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management or foreman.
