About The Position

The Office of Encampment Management provides trash collection services and hazardous waste removal from Encampments for people experiencing homelessness. This office collaborates with contracted companies, DPD, DFD, DDPHE, HOST, and the Mayor's office. The Denver Action Team has an opening for a Utility Worker I. This is a great opportunity to get into the City and County of Denver at an entry-level position, with the possibility of advancement.

Requirements

  • Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with graffiti abatement, paint removal, and/or power washing experience.
  • Comfortable working at heights. Employees will work in a bucket truck that suspends 2-3 stories while performing job duties.
  • Experience working with handheld technology.
  • Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps
  • Desire to promote to other positions within the department

Responsibilities

  • Will be assigned to Graffiti abatement
  • Performs unskilled, light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects that involves physical exertion and the use of manual tools and limited use of small power operated tools.
  • Operates light weight equipment powered by small engines used for maintenance, cleaning, and minor construction projects.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection on equipment for such things as fluid levels, leaks, condition of hoses and belts, tire pressure, brake lights, and related areas and secures, cleans, and cares for all tools and equipment needed for job assignments
  • Performs seasonal duties such as salting, sanding, and removal of ice and snow by hand.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
