About The Position

The Utility Worker I performs manual tasks involved in the maintenance and construction of streets, walkways, parks, lawns, ditches, storm sewers, and/or sewage plants. This role can involve working on concrete crews, asphalt crews, jet truck, or camera crews, focusing on building, repairing, clearing, and televising streets and drainage. Some positions may require working irregular hours, shifts, holidays, weekends, and call outs. Specific duties vary by crew assignment. The Utility Worker must maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, and clearances without interruption, and comply with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Class C driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
  • Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or experience in construction trades such as concrete work, pipe work, or general labor.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare concrete, repair cave-ins, and perform other duties as assigned to concrete crews.
  • Prepare sites by digging manually.
  • Build forms for concrete by measuring, cutting, nailing, and leveling wood.
  • Tie rebar before pouring concrete.
  • Spread and level sand or rock.
  • Rake, troll, edge, and float concrete.
  • Assemble and disassemble wooden forms.
  • Backfill work areas.
  • Repair streets by installing asphalt and clean storm sewers, drains, and culverts as part of asphalt crews.
  • Shovel and rake asphalt until smooth, oil and temper, and prep streets for asphalt overlay.
  • Film storm sewers and drains as part of camera crews.
  • Hoist cameras into storm sewers and photograph drain lines to determine the status of lines.
