About The Position

This individual will support full pressure helmet production from shell lay-up, surface finishing, component integration and final testing. Performs overhaul and repair of helmets. Supports visor and sunshade production for use on helmet assemblies.

Requirements

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination with good technical and mechanical skills.
  • Familiar with and ability to use various types of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring tools.
  • Basic computer skills such as emailing, timecard record keeping, and form filling.
  • Ability to move around the department as needed.
  • High degree of manual dexterity to perform repetitive motions with hands.
  • Ability and familiarity with the use of hand tools and powered hand tools, ex.: screwdriver, drills, hole punch, and dead blow mallet, scissors, etc., and other manually operated tools.
  • Ability to use shop machinery (ex: drill presses, saws, grinders, etc.) and paint sprayers.
  • Able to move compressed air tanks using a hand cart.
  • Use of respirators and dust masks for certain operations.
  • Occasional physical exertion including the lifting of objects exceeding 20 pounds.
  • Significant level of mental concentration required to manage multiple complex tasks.
  • Visual acuity to work safely with chemicals and machinery.
  • Visual effort to see small details.
  • Work requires frequent visual effort for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience in or technical training in Aircrew Life support / Flight Equipment Military Technical Schools or Commercial Schooling, desired but not required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in or technical training in Commercial (aircraft or automotive body repair) or hobby experience in the use of paint sprayers, desired but not required.
  • Basic, introductory on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Support full-pressure helmet production from shell lay-up, surface finishing, and component integration.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and perform testing of high-altitude helmets and associated hardware.
  • Perform overhaul and repairs to helmets and components along with testing.
  • Conduct pressure retention (leak test) and static pressure tests on various items.
  • Support visor and sunshade production from fabrication, component integration, and testing finished goods.
  • Use and maintain various tools, test equipment, paint guns.
  • Keep a clean and well-maintained workspace.
  • Perform record keeping, ordering, and inventory of materials used during production.
  • Classroom trainer of field suit technicians on maintenance and periodic overhaul procedures.
  • Ability to cross-train, learning other aspects of Life Support Equipment.
  • Ability to work with other departments, such as Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Government Inspectors.
  • Other duties as required.
