About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Distribution Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining reliable and efficient water and sanitary sewer service to customers. The work encompasses all phases of the distribution system, including water and sewer main maintenance and repair, inspections, meter operations, customer service activities, and operation of related equipment and facilities. The position requires technical skill, independent judgment, and the ability to respond to routine and emergency situations. The Oak Creek Water and Sewer Utility provides water and sewerage service to 70,000 people over an 83 square mile service area.

Requirements

  • Must obtain a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Grade 1 “D” Distribution System Operator License within six months of employment.
  • A valid Wisconsin motor vehicle operator’s license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A with “N” endorsement, within 6 months of employment.
  • The loss of CDL or licensure may result in discipline, up to and including termination.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects water and sanitary sewer main installations to verify materials, alignment, line and grade; prepares as-built documentation; and performs leakage and pressure testing.
  • Performs water main tapping, hydrant and main flushing, valve operation, and reads, installs, tests, and repairs water meters.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints and investigates service-related concerns.
  • Operates, inspects, and performs routine maintenance and repairs on sewage lift stations and other distribution system facilities.
  • Responsibilities include televising, cleaning, and conducting condition assessments of sanitary sewers.
  • Operates trucks and heavy and light equipment, including backhoes, compressors, pumps, generators, pneumatic hammers, drills, and hand tools to excavate and repair water and sewer main breaks, hydrants, service laterals, curb stop boxes, valves, and valve boxes.
  • Field locates public underground facilities as required for Diggers Hotline tickets.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and distribution facilities, including lubrication, oil changes, packing replacement, filter changes, cleaning, painting, and basic building and heating system maintenance.
  • Custodial and grounds maintenance duties are performed as necessary to maintain facilities and grounds in a safe, functional, and professional condition, including cleaning interior spaces, snow removal, lawn care, and landscape maintenance.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots, and performs maintenance on SCADA and communication equipment associated with the water treatment plant and sanitary and storm lift stations.
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of water pumping and treatment facilities as required.
