Utility Plant Operator I/II (Pecos)
About The Position
The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is seeking qualified individuals for a Utility Plant Operator I or II position at the Pecos Water Treatment Plant. This role involves semi-skilled operational work in water treatment, including monitoring, operating, and adjusting equipment under supervision, as well as performing routine equipment and custodial maintenance tasks. The plant operates 365 days a year, requiring availability on weekdays, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, including mandatory standby coverage. Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- For Utility Plant Operator I: 1 year of experience in the operation or maintenance of a water or wastewater utility, or other related industrial experience, or enrollment/completion of the City of Chandler's Temporary Utility Plant Operator Trainee Program.
- For Utility Plant Operator II: 2 years of experience in the operation or maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant, facility or distribution system.
- A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Certification upon hire or promotion (for Operator I).
- ADEQ Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion (for Operator I).
- ADEQ Grade 3 Water Treatment Certification and an ADEQ Grade 3 Water Distribution Certification upon hire or promotion (for Operator II).
- Ability to pass respirator fit testing within 6 months of hire or promotion date.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification within 1 year of hire or promotion.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities
- Monitor, operate, and adjust equipment under supervision.
- Perform routine equipment and custodial maintenance tasks.
- Operate and maintain the City's water treatment plant, water wells, and booster station facilities.
- Operate wastewater and reclaimed water infrastructure.
- Treat fresh water and wastewater to meet irrigation and industrial demands.
- Utilize advanced treatment processes to recycle industrial wastewater for reuse.
- Respond to emergencies and perform necessary repairs.
