About The Position

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Utility Operator on 1st shift at our Fogelsville, PA manufacturing plant. This position will be responsible to perform all aspects of the shipping department. Must be able to help lead fellow co-workers and prioritize daily functions. This position will also be responsible in maintaining a constant work flow and following the daily shipping schedule to achieve maximum performance and efficiency. Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will maintain daily communication with department management, team lead and other employees in the department. The position must produce product with varying cutting instructions based production requirements. The position works in a normal manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to use computerized equipment in daily operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Must have basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Must be forklift certified.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret a tape measure.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior machine experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the shipping department.
  • Help lead fellow co-workers and prioritize daily functions.
  • Maintain a constant work flow and follow the daily shipping schedule to achieve maximum performance and efficiency.
  • Maintain daily communication with department management, team lead and other employees in the department.
  • Produce product with varying cutting instructions based production requirements.
  • Assist the lead and management in daily shipping operations.
  • Assess shipping progress and make corrective actions as necessary.
  • Instruct department personnel on shipping operations.
  • Instruct department personnel on proper shipment process and package handling techniques.
  • Execute basic understanding of SAP.
  • Utilize necessary SAP functions related to shipping.
  • Inform department personnel of the daily shipping schedule and tasks to be performed.
  • Constant communication with traffic scheduler, supervisor, manager on daily changes to the shipping schedule.
  • Operate industrial forklift on a daily basis.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading as needed to fulfill production needs and customer requirements.
  • Communicate with the yard jockey throughout the course of the day to have loaded trailers pulled and empty trailer put in doors for loading.
  • Ensure all peeled good rolls are labeled properly and color coding is correct.
  • Ensure all carpet cushion rolls are labeled correctly.
  • Ensure that all trailers are inspected prior to use.
  • Ensure all trailers have glad hand lock in place and trailer wheels are chocked.
  • Ensure all trailers are swept out prior to loading.
  • Ensure all dry erase boards are filled out with all pertinent information.
  • Ensure trucks are loaded in proper loading sequence according to customer requirements.
  • Verify trucks have been loaded properly.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections during the course of the shift.
  • Maintain an orderly and neat work environment.
  • Coordinate with maintenance department regarding equipment / machinery issues.
  • Demonstrate consistent ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor / Manager.
