About The Position

McCormick is seeking to hire a 3rd shift Utility Mechanic immediately at their McCormick Flavor Solutions site in Geneva, IL. This role operates on a C shift schedule (Sunday-Thursday, 10 PM – 6:30 AM). The Utility Mechanic, also referred to as an Electrical Technician, will support the maintenance needs, both mechanical and electrical, of Operations and Production. This includes troubleshooting and repair, preventative and predictive maintenance, with the goal of maintaining and repairing production/processing equipment to reduce machine-related downtime, eliminate losses, and improve machine reliability. The technician will work in a team environment, collaborating with various business areas to provide support, repairs, and solutions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 7-9 years of experience in an Industrial Maintenance or Electrician role, preferably in the food industry.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety requirements with working on industrial equipment (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, electrical safety, chemical safety).
  • Understanding the fundamentals of material compatibility, sanitary design, equipment drawings, and general utilities (gas, air, electric, water).
  • Familiarity with the general names of parts, diagrams, and equipment.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to provide mentoring, coaching, and leading technology and technical skills development.
  • Ability to provide feedback to Production on problems and solutions and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to provide support with training, learning, education, and best maintenance practices.
  • Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated grammatical and organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, Work Order Systems.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work up to heights of 50ft.
  • Must be able to become forklift and man-lift certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electrician, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment including: motors, pumps, valves, agitators, circuit boards, VFDs, fans, blowers, etc.
  • General understanding of air compressors, chillers, boilers, dust collectors, HVAC, and other utility equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, manuals, technical specs, and electrical drawings.
  • Completing Work Orders in Maintenance Connect System.
  • Completing Root-Cause-Analysis documentation.
  • Performing all work in a safe and clean manner, including correct Lock-out Tag-out procedures, welding, cutting, polishing, and reporting food safety risks.
  • Abiding by GMP standards.
  • Operating heavy equipment including: boom lifts, scissor lifts, fork lifts, lulls, etc.
