Utility Maintenance Worker
About The Position
Assists with repairs to equipment and facilities used to pump, store, distribute, convey, treat, and process water and wastewater. The role maintains and repairs water and wastewater treatment facilities and performs installation and repair work on water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems. It also includes transporting crew members and materials, operating equipment to clear sewer lines, performing light mechanical repairs, and responding to emergencies. The position is considered Emergency Essential and requires 24-hour availability during emergency conditions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–3 years of related experience.
- Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
- Grade D water certificate.
- Class I Collection license.
- Availability for emergency response, including 24-hour availability during emergency conditions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair water and wastewater treatment facilities using a variety of tools and equipment.
- Raise manholes, valve boxes, and meter boxes using hand and masonry tools.
- Expose, cut, remove, replace, or clamp damaged sewer and water lines using hand tools.
- Tap mainlines, install saddles, and connect water service to meters.
- Repair and install fittings, valves, hydrants, and other water distribution appurtenances on lines from 3 to 24 inches.
- Operate light trucks to transport crew members, equipment, and materials to worksites.
- Operate a water jet rodder to clear clogged sewer lines.
- Tap mainlines, install saddles, and connect sewer lines to residences.
- Repair and install taps, fittings, manholes, and other sanitary sewer collection appurtenances on lines from 4 to 24 inches.
- Perform light mechanical repairs, such as oil and filter changes.
- Respond after normal working hours to repair or maintain equipment or systems during emergencies.
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Perform other duties within areas of responsibility and ability, as assigned.
- Maintain 24-hour availability during emergency conditions.
