Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Class D or higher driver’s license.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Class D Water Operator Certificate within 18 months of hire.
  • Ability to perform the essential position functions and meet the physical requirements of the position under the working conditions described, including independently handling weights up to 70 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or Diploma in Water Environmental Technologies or closely related field.
  • Valid Minnesota Class C or higher Water Operator license.
  • Valid Minnesota Class SC or higher Wastewater Operator license.
  • Valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements.
  • Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment, water distribution, wastewater system including infrastructure, appurtenance, and equipment.
  • Three years of experience with SCADA, CMMS and/or GIS in the operation of a Minnesota Class B or Class A water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, or storm conveyance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, operate, and maintain the City’s utility infrastructure, including water distribution (main break repairs, valve operation and repair, hydrant inspection and repair, meter replacements), sanitary collection (sewer jetting, sewer inspection (CCTV), lift station inspection), and storm conveyance (sewer jetting, sewer inspection (CCTV), lift station inspections, pond inlet/outlet inspection).
  • Enter, review, and maintain inspection, maintenance, and repair records of City infrastructure.
  • Interpret, update, and record as built and location plan information.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with customers, providing general inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of utility systems.
  • Locate City infrastructure under the Gopher State One Call system.
  • Assist internal departments as directed by Utility Supervisors.
  • Utilize technology daily for gathering and recording information, including communication tools, SCADA, records management, GIS applications, GPS collection, and work management applications.
  • Respond to emergency callouts after scheduled work hours and perform corrective work as necessary (minimum once every twelve weeks).
  • Adhere to and implement all safety rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Promote and maintain good relationships between co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Work with or for other Public Works divisions as assigned, including snowplowing and other maintenance activities.
