About The Position

To perform a wide variety of skilled work in the construction, replacement, repair, installation, and cleaning of the City's sanitary sewer, storm collection system, water distribution, water production systems, streets and related facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of construction or maintenance experience working with pumps, valves, water and sewer systems, and heavy equipment
  • A valid Texas Driver's License is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of a valid Water Distribution "C" license, or higher, issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
  • The Utilities Department team members are considered essential employees for the community and play a critical role in maintaining and restoring water and wastewater services during emergencies.
  • Team members will be required to be reachable and ready to come to work immediately when on-call, or when a critical situation arises, like severe weather events, power outages, or significant equipment malfunctions, to help manage the response and minimize disruption to operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, clean, and repair sewer lines, storm lines, water lines and related facilities.
  • Cut, lay, install, and repair water mains, storm lines, sewer lines, valves and hydrants, etc.
  • Operate large construction equipment such as dump trucks, vac truck, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, trenching machines, Hydro Excavators, rodders, Durapatcher, hydro-cleaners, closed circuit televising equipment etc.
  • Build and repair manholes, catch basins, and other related facilities.
  • Participate in construction, maintenance, and repair work, using established safe work practices and procedures.
  • Install barricades and route traffic in a safe manner.
  • Respond to public complaints and requests for service.
  • Turn on new water services, turn off discontinued water services and delinquencies, disconnect sewer services, and distribute notification papers related to the same.
  • Install new water and sewer taps as needed.
  • Install, test, and replace water meters as necessary.
  • Operate a jackhammer and all construction-related hand tools.
  • Install shoring and related safety equipment.
  • Operate sewer cleaning equipment.
  • Locate and repair water leaks, damaged lines, and worn valves.
  • Collect samples, perform a variety of routine tests; record and monitor results
  • Install, test, repair, and replace fire hydrants.
  • Test, repair, install, and replace backflow prevention devices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
