About The Position

Locates underground electrical distribution lines as requested from the Mississippi #811 Call Center and any other parties, internal or external, to prevent damage to the lines during excavation projects and to allow excavators to work safely. This role involves performing activities unique to the position, such as accurately locating and marking underground electrical distribution lines and photographing the marked location for documentation. The technician will also prepare and maintain time sheets and records for each locate performed, report NESC code violations or maintenance needs, and assist the maintenance department as needed. Additionally, the role includes inspecting underground cable routes for any hazard conditions and promptly reporting needed repairs. Locate requests are received via Mississippi 811, supervisor, and other 4-County employees.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of electric distribution utility experience.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting computerized electrical distribution maps.
  • Experience in construction practices and techniques related to the electric distribution industry.
  • Able to understand and comply with all safety requirements in 4-County's Safety Manual.
  • Exercise independent judgment and plan daily work in a logical method.
  • Communicate effectively with professional and technical staff, representatives of other agencies, and the public, and prepare clear, concise correspondence and reports.
  • Work independently; read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; meet with contractors and others on matters of locating underground electrical lines; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, Partner Mapping software.
  • Physically able to perform locating functions, which require bending, stooping, lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, acute visual precision, extensive walking often on unlevel terrain and in marshy, muddy areas.
  • Able to withstand temperature extremes for extended periods of time.
  • Able to transport people and equipment to job site, requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to train others, build teamwork, and maximize the productivity level of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in operating an underground electrical line locator device.
