The City of Fairburn is seeking an experienced, skilled professional that has extensive experience performing manual work functions associated with the construction, repair and maintenance of water, sewer, and storm water system in the City of Fairburn. The Utilities Maintenance Worker performs more complex duties required to ensure that City infrastructure, systems, and facilities to which assigned, are operated, and maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, inspecting, and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the operation, maintenance and repair of assigned facilities and systems. The Utility Maintenance Worker focuses on providing superior customer service to the citizens and customers of the City of Fairburn while handling a variety of water, sewer, and storm water issues. The incumbent must maintain professionalism and courtesy when exposed to stressful situations. Reports to the Water and Sewer Superintendent. Work Days/Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 am 4:00pm; may be required to work the on call rotation schedule. Posting Start: 06/11/2026 Posting End: 06/21/2026 JOB SUMMARY The Utility Maintenance Worker position is a non-exempt hourly position responsible for performing manual work functions associated with the construction, repair and maintenance of water, sewer, and storm water system in the City of Fairburn. The Utilities Maintenance Worker performs more complex duties required to ensure that City infrastructure, systems, and facilities to which assigned, are operated, and maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, inspecting, and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the operation, maintenance and repair of assigned facilities and systems. The Utility Maintenance Worker receives only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The incumbent may be assigned as a Lead for a Utilities Maintenance Crew. This position is responsible for performing the most complex duties assigned to the division. The Utility Maintenance Worker has the primary focus on providing superior customer service to the citizens and customers of the City of Fairburn while handling a variety of water, sewer, and storm water issues. The incumbent must maintain professionalism and courtesy when exposed to stressful situations. Reports to the Water and Sewer Superintendent.
