About The Position

The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to prevent damage during excavation and construction activities. This role involves using specialized equipment, interpreting technical documents, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to work independently in various outdoor environments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, prints, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Comfortable using technology (tablets, GPS systems, locating equipment).
• Strong communication and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or telecommunications preferred.
• Utility locating certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• Valid DOT medical card

Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities (fiber optic, gas, electric, water, sewer, etc.) using specialized equipment.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and GIS data to ensure accurate locating.
• Utilize electromagnetic locating devices and ground-penetrating radar as needed.
• Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods in accordance with industry standards.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, crews, and project managers regarding utility locations and potential conflicts.
• Document all locates, including photos, sketches, and reports, using company systems and applications.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and local/state guidelines (e.g., 811 requirements).
• Respond to emergency locate requests as needed.
• Maintain and care for company-provided equipment and vehicles.
