About The Position

As the Utility Locator, you will be responsible for identifying and locating underground utilities to support safe and efficient excavation, drilling, and construction operations. You will utilize specialized locating equipment, mapping tools, and field expertise to prevent utility damage and maintain compliance with safety standards. Success in this role requires accurate utility locating, strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a commitment to safety and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license required.
  • OSHA 10 certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent underground utility locating experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency for reviewing maps, work orders, and project documentation.
  • Ability to safely operate utility locating equipment and related field tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crews, leadership, customers, and utility partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, accuracy, and utility protection.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting directional drilling, excavation, telecommunications, or construction operations preferred.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Experience in telecommunications or utility construction environments.
  • Familiarity with directional drilling operations and underground utility infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize mapping tools, utility records, and locating equipment to identify underground electric, gas, telephone, telecommunications, and other utility lines.
  • Accurately mark utility locations using paint and flags to support safe excavation and directional drilling operations.
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain assigned company vehicles, locating equipment, tools, and other field equipment.
  • Perform utility locating activities in standard and high-risk environments while following company and applicable safety requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely utility information to construction crews to help prevent utility strikes, service interruptions, and property damage.
  • Communicate effectively with crews, leadership, customers, and utility partners regarding utility locations, field conditions, and potential risks.
