About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is seeking experienced Utility Locators. The company has been protecting underground utility infrastructure since 2001, operating 24/7/365 nationwide on critical utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. They go beyond basic paint and flag work, utilizing advanced technology and expertise to deliver accurate, reliable results. The ideal candidate is an experienced Utility Locator who understands 811 law, takes pride in clean marks, and desires autonomy in managing their territory without micromanagement. This is a professional role for self-motivated locators who can work independently.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years utility locating experience
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to pass a drug screen
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle
• Consistent attendance and punctuality
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members
• Willingness to travel

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods
• Accurately mark utilities using paint and flags
• Document all work using a mobile app including photos and reports
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages
• Participate in an on-call rotation
