About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has provided utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging services since 2001 and operates nationwide. The role offers independence within an assigned work area, with operational support and modern locating technology. The position is full-time and includes an on-call rotation. Locators must be willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, and work overtime and flexible schedules.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions, overtime, and flexible schedules.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Accuracy, safety, effective communication, and a team-oriented approach.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Experience using electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
