About The Position

Conti LLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Utility Locator to join our Road & Infrastructure Division in Tampa, Florida. This position plays a critical role in supporting roadway, traffic, and infrastructure projects by accurately locating and marking underground utilities prior to excavation and construction activities. The Utility Locator will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility systems including fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure, street lighting, traffic signalization systems, electrical utilities, and communication networks. The ideal candidate will have experience utilizing utility locating equipment, interpreting utility maps and drawings, and working in field environments while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and accuracy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and field environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting roadway, traffic, transportation, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience working with contractors, municipalities, or utility providers.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic communication systems and underground telecommunications infrastructure.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Locate and identify underground utility systems using electromagnetic locating equipment, ground penetrating technology, utility maps, and as-built drawings.
  • Mark underground utility locations utilizing APWA color codes and industry-standard marking practices.
  • Locate and verify underground infrastructure including: Fiber optic communication lines, Traffic signal systems, Street lighting systems, Electrical distribution systems, Conduit networks and utility vaults.
  • Perform field investigations and site assessments prior to excavation activities.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field crews, subcontractors, municipalities, and utility owners to ensure utilities are accurately identified and protected.
  • Provide guidance to construction personnel regarding safe excavation practices around existing utilities.
  • Document utility locations, field findings, and site conditions through reports, sketches, photographs, and digital mapping tools.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and verification of existing underground utility systems when required.
  • Maintain utility locating equipment and ensure all tools are in proper working condition.
  • Respond to utility locate requests and support active construction projects throughout the Tampa Bay area.
  • Travel to various project sites as needed.
