About The Position

To perform advanced underground utility locating duties with a high degree of accuracy, technical proficiency, and independent judgment, supporting the Cooperative's commitment to preventing system damage and ensuring the integrity of its underground distribution system. To demonstrate mastery of required locator training and actively participate in advanced continuing education, ensuring ongoing development in complex locating techniques, troubleshooting, damage prevention strategies, and regulatory compliance. To promote and model excavation safety in accordance with the South Carolina Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act (SCUFDPA). Employee shall possess an in-depth understanding of all SCUFDPA requirements and be capable of interpreting and applying them in the field, as well as guiding others in proper compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years experience as a utility locator
  • A minimum of two (2) years in the position is required to become proficient in the job and to be eligible for promotion
  • Working knowledge of the Cooperative's distribution system
  • Working knowledge of Cooperative policies and safety rules and regulations
  • General construction knowledge of the Cooperative's underground system
  • Use and care of PPE is required
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced underground utility locating duties with a high degree of accuracy, technical proficiency, and independent judgment
  • Support the Cooperative's commitment to preventing system damage and ensuring the integrity of its underground distribution system
  • Demonstrate mastery of required locator training
  • Actively participate in advanced continuing education
  • Ensure ongoing development in complex locating techniques, troubleshooting, damage prevention strategies, and regulatory compliance
  • Promote and model excavation safety in accordance with the South Carolina Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act (SCUFDPA)
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of all SCUFDPA requirements
  • Be capable of interpreting and applying SCUFDPA requirements in the field
  • Guide others in proper compliance
  • Provide Utility Locator I with informal guidance, field mentoring and technical support as necessary or requested
  • Perform all locating tasks on an underground electrical distribution system
  • Operate hand tools and any locating instrument that is provided by the Cooperative, to include radio devices as well as ground penetrating radar (GPR) units
