About The Position

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking experienced Utility Locators to join their growing team. This role is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who thrive in challenging environments and enjoy independent fieldwork. The individual will be responsible for accurately locating and marking underground utilities such as cables and pipes to prevent damage during excavation projects. These are full-time, daytime positions that require overtime, and some weekend work is expected. LSC emphasizes quality and safety, looking for individuals with strong physical endurance, the ability to work in tough conditions, and problem-solving skills for a fast-paced, hands-on role.

Requirements

Must be 21 years of age or older due to driver policy.
High School Diploma required.
Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, snow).
Physical stamina to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. in challenging environments.
Available to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Availability to participate in on-call rotation.
Prior utility locating experience.
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Capability to operate a company vehicle and use general hand/power tools.
Comfortable working in confined spaces.
Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
Strong critical thinking, organizational, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Commitment to working safely and producing high-quality, ethical service.
Comfortable with utilizing a laptop, Microsoft Office programs, and cell phone.

Nice To Haves

Previous outdoor experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Respond to locate requests within the legal time limit.
Mark found utilities using the proper APWA coloring system.
Read and interpret utility maps/prints to identify underground utility size and type.
Complete required paperwork for locates and line crossings/excavations.
Work safely by adhering to LSC and client guidelines and procedures.
Communicate work scopes and responsibilities among project-specific field-based teams.
Complete and maintain operator qualifications (OQs).
Operate and use electronic locating equipment.
Gather data, prepare records, and submit reports in a timely manner.
Perform daily safety meetings and submit daily report documentations.
Generate and gather equipment for project kickoffs.
Ensure work aligns with company goals.
Document and report any incidents, near misses, and opportunities for improvement.
Work in compliance with all technical procedures and guidelines.
Be available for on-call rotation.
