The purpose of this classification is to locate County-owned water and wastewater utility lines and services. This role involves responding to work tickets, traveling to sites, reading maps, locating utility lines, marking their depths and lengths, taking photos, updating databases, and maintaining documentation. The technician also investigates damage to utility lines, prepares detailed documentation, analyzes information to determine liability, and submits reports. Additionally, they perform related duties such as reporting leaks, issuing warnings for violations, ensuring right-of-way is clear, and assisting with main shutdowns. Safety procedures are paramount, including monitoring the work environment, using safety equipment, and directing traffic around work sites. The role also involves responding to public inquiries, resolving complex issues, attending meetings, and preventing unauthorized digging until locates are completed. Responsibilities include preparing various forms and reports, and operating and maintaining equipment such as vehicles, radar, metal detectors, magnetic pipe locators, stakes, flags, and GPS devices.
