We are looking for a Utility Line Locator / Field Technician to work with civil and geotechnical engineers and civil contractors. This is a full-time, entry level hybrid office and field position based in Vancouver, BC offering a competitive salary and benefits, fully benefits to commence a 3-month probationary period. This position offers growth and experience in a quick paced industry with notable projects throughout the Fraser Valley.

Requirements

  • A Diploma in a technical-related field
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam.
  • Candidates must have a valid BC driver’s license and their own vehicle (vehicle use will be reimbursed)
  • Out of town work may be necessary on occasion with expenses reimbursed.
  • The ideal candidate will be someone with a technical background (math/science/geoscience/geography).

Nice To Haves

  • Industry-knowledge and utility locating experience.
  • Knowledge of GPR systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • A mixture of utility line locating field work, project coordination, and reporting.
  • In the field you will use BC One Call and GIS information to locate underground utilities and provide clearances for borehole investigations using Ground Penetrating Radar and Electromagnetic Scanning methods. This will involve client-based discussions to confirm locations for drilling or recommending moving the drilling locations to avoid utility conflicts or access constraints at each project site.
  • In the office you will place BC One Call Tickets, collect available GIS information, and review the information prior to heading out to each project site.
  • Project coordination, scheduling, and client discussions will be necessary to facilitate project sites and client requests.
  • Other forms of GPR investigations will include GPR grid scans and subsurface mapping to identify subsurface information per client requests.
  • This position will require the construction of as-built drawings, memos, and reports to be prepared for each site investigation completed.
  • Geotechnical data collection and processing
  • Photo documentation surveys of project features, structures and reporting.
  • Working with our team in Vancouver to assist in the deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting and removal of instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
