The Utility I position is a cross-functional role that handles key duties within the Transportation, Engineering & Mechanical Departments. This position oversees the train, freight, and crew, operating track switches, coupling and uncoupling cars, and placing cars for loading and unloading. It also involves placing cars and engines in rail yards and on the main railroad, as well as installing and repairing railroad track. The role requires safe operation of spike pullers and spike drivers, removing old spikes, driving new spikes, and performing related maintenance to meet department and company goals while complying with Federal Railroad Association (FRA) rules and regulations. Additionally, this role performs inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and installation of locomotive mechanical systems, air equipment, and electrical systems, including components like diesel engines, motors, generators, wheels, air brakes, wiring, and lighting systems.
