About The Position

This position reports to and works with the EHS Manager to assist in maintaining the facility cleanliness and waste management operations. Perform a variety of functions to control, separate, clean and maintain the compactor area, scrap metal areas, as well as general facility yard areas. Organizational skills and abilities to communicate efficiently and effectively are of paramount importance. Ability to maintain and take responsibility for the assigned areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines and work with accuracy.
  • Ability to perform manual labor such as shoveling, sweeping, bending.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills for coordinating daily waste management and reporting issues.
  • Ability to safely operate dock equipment, Forklift and pallet jacks, compactor.
  • Willingness to take pride and responsibility of their assigned areas.
  • Basic recordkeeping and reporting skills using spreadsheet or inspection form.
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn sustainable waste management practices, Best management Practices for SWP3 (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan), RCRA (Resource Conservation Recovery Act), SPCC (Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures).
  • Knowledge of Chemical material movement handling.
  • Practice safe work and environmentally friendly behavior and participate actively in safety and environmental training.
  • Maintain and use as required all personal protective equipment (PPE)and other safety equipment provided.
  • Follow environmentally sound practices to help reduce pollution and conserve natural resources.
  • Understand hazards associated with job assignments and alert supervisor/management of any unsafe conditions or environmental concerns immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Receive oral and/or written instructions from EHS Manager.
  • Separate and coordinate trash, cardboard, and metals to appropriate disposal bins.
  • Monitor trash and cardboard compactors to ensure no contamination.
  • Check material for defective conditions, report non-conformities to EHS Manager.
  • Safely move material to disposal locations.
  • Follow all SWP3 best management practices.
  • Conduct yard inspections, cleaning and maintaining a trash free facility.
  • Conduct cleanup of trash/material from the compactor dock areas, barrel shed, scrap metal open top containers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized waste area. (trash/cardboard compactors, scrap metal open tops, barrel shed, any additional disposal containers).
  • Perform routine performance checks on the material handling equipment such as checking horn, tires, lights, forks and frame.
  • Exercise great caution and maintain alertness at all times when operating forklift truck in order to avoid injury to pedestrians, other drivers, self and/or damage to materials.
  • Manage the dumping of plant wide trash/cardboard bins into their designated compactor.
  • Operation of compactor equipment.
  • Assistance with Spill Response and clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned.
