About The Position

This Utility Fleet Technician II position supports garages and line crews in the following duties related to the repair and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment (i.e. trucks, dozers, cranes etc.): Preventive maintenance inspections Troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems Performing repairs Welding and cutting Fabrication Driving and operation of heavy trucks and specialized equipment Other routine maintenance Please note that the successful incumbent should have the necessary tools to perform the above tasks.

Requirements

  • Pass two pre-employment written assessments (Craft Knowledge & Skills / CAST)
  • Pass a Craft Knowledge & Skills hands-on evaluation and a physical abilities test (POET)
  • Job may require extensive travel, ability to work overtime, call out, and willingness to work first or second shift
  • Ability to qualify for a CDL license within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to progress through the Technician II training, obtain ASE certifications, and pass skills assessments
  • Ability to certify as brake inspector
  • Ability to certify in air conditioning
  • Job requires positive interaction between customers and co-workers
  • Ability to work under extreme weather conditions
  • Candidates must be available for overtime, call out, weekend and holidays as needed.
  • Out of town and overnight travel are required throughout the bottom two-thirds of the state, away from home Monday through Thursday each week.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of light, medium and heavy vehicles and equipment
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic principals
  • Welding and acetylene cutting skills
  • Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • 3 - 5 years job experience in repairing vehicles or equipment
  • 2 year degree in mechanically-oriented training highly preferred
  • ASE's and/or Welding Certification preferred
