About The Position

The Utility Engineer I will play a key role in developing overhead electric distribution projects that enhance and strengthen our clients' electrical systems. You will be responsible for assisting in processing field survey data, creating circuit designs, applying utility standards, estimating project costs, and supporting feeder system upgrades. Utilizing GIS software and the utility's work management system, you will ensure designs are accurate, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices. This role requires a strong attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering constructible and reliable designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed, and professional appearance.
  • Must pass background and credit check.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact with clients in connection with project design responsibilities.
  • Strong ability to tolerate change and willingness to be flexible.
  • Displays a questioning attitude.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design and processing of construction work requests for overhead electric distribution systems, following established utility standards and guidelines.
  • Conducts field investigations, surveys, and inspections to gather data for utility projects.
  • Supports the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Collaborates with other engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Monitors system performance and assist in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems related to utilities.
  • Helps maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding utility operations.
  • Participates in the development of maintenance plans and schedules for utility infrastructure.
  • Continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Updates GIS databases to accurately reflect current field conditions.
  • Provides engineering technical support to design personnel.
  • Creates and reviews computer-assisted designs and generates construction drawings for review by Senior Engineers.
  • Develops distribution circuit designs, applying a foundational understanding of circuit drawings and distribution engineering principles.
  • Assists in preparing pole resiliency reports, cost estimates, and required documentation for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Maintains and updates project progress within the company's project management system.
  • Supports a culture of safety, adhering to company and industry safety standards, including conducting pre-job briefings and vehicle inspections.
  • Monitors and adapts to updates in client guidelines to ensure compliance in all designs.
  • Attends external meetings with client engineers to define project scope and provides detailed meeting notes for internal and client stakeholders during pre-construction, pre-engineering, and pre-design phases.
  • Assists in verifying the accuracy of field survey data, maps, and record drawings to ensure design integrity.
  • Supports storm restoration efforts by participating in activities such as patrolling and production leadership during emergency response events.
  • Attends outside meetings with client engineers to define project scope and submit meeting notes for all client and designated internal staff at pre-construction, pre-engineering, and pre-design stages.
  • Assist with the gathering of information from field survey data and verify accuracy of maps and record drawings.
  • Assist with storm restoration activities such as patrolling, extendo stick, and production lead during a storm.
  • Other duties as assigned.
