Utility Data Analyst- SSLGC
About The Position
Assists the Assistant General Manager with utility application management, data engineering, data modeling, and data visualization for the Schertz-Seguin Local Government Corporation (SSLGC), a wholesale water utility. Performs a variety of data and application duties related to SSLGC's water treatment, production, transmission, and distribution functions, including business requirement analysis, procurement of advanced utility software solutions, and system integrations across Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and asset management/maintenance systems. Additionally, assists the Operations Manager and Water Systems Superintendent with application support specific to utility operations and provides guidance as necessary to increase staff utilization of these systems.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working with GIS and asset management/computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preferably as applied to water utility infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
- Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in the water utility industry is helpful but not required.
- Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) in Geographic Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related degree.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Propose new data solutions by having a self-starter mentality and being pro-active, asking inquisitive questions about system design, architecture, data types, and regulatory data requirements to corporation staff
- Obtain an in-depth understanding of SSLGC's water treatment, production, transmission, and distribution workflows and the data generated from these processes
- Document and identify the flow of data from each system
- Routinely perform exploratory data analysis to have a complete understanding of the data and use it as a quality control baseline to our production systems and expose outliers causing inaccurate data results
- Perform data evaluation processes to clean, transform, and analysis data back to production sources
- Validate all data through routine tests and verify with department staff and supervisors
- Create weekly reports for the Assistant General Manager's review on data quality and recommendations to reduce outliers and poor data collection processes
- Attend software development meetings with vendors, project managers, and consultants as needed
- Have regular interaction with SSLGC operations and maintenance staff to identify data quality issues
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
