About The Position
The Milwaukee Public Museum is hiring a part-time Utility/Custodial Worker for the first shift, working a varying schedule of 20 hours per week. The position is a critical part of the museum’s customer-focused organization and is responsible for general interior and exterior cleaning, custodial upkeep, equipment monitoring, event setup and breakdown, and safe handling of biohazard spills. The role is based at the Milwaukee Public Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and pays $16.00 per hour.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to operate a computer to access email and the telephone messaging center.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and make independent evaluations and decisions.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to frequently lift 50 pounds, move up to 100 pounds, and move 500 pounds on a cart.
- Ability to occasionally sit, talk, or hear.
- Ability to climb stairs, carry equipment up and down stairs, and safely climb ladders up to 20 feet.
Nice To Haves
- Previous custodial experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning and custodial duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, dusting, vacuuming, and washing, waxing, or polishing furniture.
- Clean carpets, walls, and windows.
- Use equipment and appropriate techniques for mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors.
- Maintain and monitor equipment operation, cleaning schedules, and upkeep and repair logs.
- Safely clean up biohazard spills; training in Blood Borne Pathogens is provided.
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize restrooms and keep them supplied with towels, soap, and tissue.
- Set up and take down chairs, tables, and props for internal and external events.
- Maintain walkways, shovel snow, and perform other exterior cold-weather duties as required.
- Collect and dispose of rubbish and trash.
