About The Position

The Utility Core Maker is responsible for fabricating ceramic cores using various processes including low pressure injection, high pressure injection, and invested core methods. This role requires the ability to work independently to ensure a smooth product flow throughout the core production stages. The position involves a range of tasks from slurry preparation and testing to the fabrication of complex ceramic cores and their subsequent firing and repair.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret Process Control Procedures, Technique Cards and other technical specifications.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to assess out-of-norm situations, institute corrective actions, and maintain production flow.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Physical ability to lift and push.

Experience with ceramics or investing preferred.

Responsibilities

Fabricate ceramic cores via low pressure injection, high pressure injection, and invested core processes.
Make slurries within established process specifications, checking and adjusting pH, viscosity, temperature, and gel times.
Fabricate acceptable ceramic cores by the Invested Core Process, including inspecting soluble patterns, assembling patterns, building wax shells, leaching soluble material, building alpha coated cores, filling cavities with core pack, de-waxing, and firing.
Produce ceramic cores by high pressure injection molding, operating machines per established processes, monitoring temperature and pressure, and managing inventory of ceramic mix.
Produce ceramic cores by low pressure slurry injection molding, operating machines per established specifications, and removing binder.
Deposit a controlled thickness of non-reactive coating material on cores using plasma spraying, setting up and operating the unit, and measuring thickness.
Fabricate and reface setters used as firing fixtures.
Repair ceramic cores after firing using established techniques, inspecting for defects and performing repairs.
Fire ceramic cores in a furnace to increase strength and dimensional stability, loading and unloading setters and product, and setting up and operating the furnace.
Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices, adhering to safety rules, operating equipment safely, identifying and reporting safety problems, and wearing necessary personal protective equipment.
Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
Package and ship product.
Perform material testing as required.
Complete all logs and records.
Meet all production and quality standards.
Perform other tasks as directed.
