About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Utility Coordinator in Tampa, FL, to support coordination efforts among multiple clients (FDOT, county, and private), contractors, and third-party utility companies. This role involves serving as a capable professional with minimal direction, developing and maintaining positive relationships with third-party utilities, and working with clients to establish priorities, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with goals and requirements. The position requires applying advanced knowledge to develop design procedures, software, and tools for high-quality, cost-effective technical project activities, as well as developing and maintaining project tracking systems for issues and resolutions. The Utility Coordinator will participate in utility and roadway meetings to promote issue resolution, prepare status reports, and develop estimates of technical efforts for projects. This role also involves managing communication and collaboration with the full design team and client, conducting interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables, and overseeing the development and implementation of technical approaches for complex work requiring ingenuity and creativity. The position includes initiating and creating project designs and plans, preparing presentation and design drawings, and exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives. The Utility Coordinator may oversee the work of less experienced designers and meet with clients, overseeing all aspects of the project to ensure client needs are met. This role provides utility coordination services for multiple projects with tight design and/or construction schedules throughout the state, acting as a liaison between engineers, contractors, governmental agencies, UAOs, and the public to resolve utility conflicts. The Utility Coordinator will oversee and guide other utility coordinators and design consultants for utility, roadway, and railroad coordination efforts, and coordinate with FDOT roadway design, right-of-way, survey, construction, and maintenance departments. Responsibilities include coordinating with FDOT in preparing Utility Work by Highway Contractor packages (UWHCA), conducting utility coordination meetings, documenting minutes, and maintaining files of all activities for each utility agency. The role involves performing follow-up on meeting action items, leading and assisting with contingency plans for unplanned utility events, and reviewing FDOT utility permit applications and plans. Additionally, the Utility Coordinator will negotiate design consultant scope and staff hours.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree plus 6 years of related experience, or AS Degree plus 8 years of related experience, or HS/GED plus 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities experience.
  • Due to the nature of the projects associated with this position a valid US citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities.
  • Knowledge and experience reviewing and understanding Utility Agency/Owner (UAO) design documents, utility specifications, and utility work schedules.
  • Experience and proficiency in reading FDOT Roadway Plans, FDOT Utility Adjustment Plans, and UAO Construction Plans for water, sewer, gas, communications, and power.
  • Knowledge of FDOT right-of-way and easement requirements related to railroads and utilities.
  • Experience and knowledge of the FDOT plans production process and utility coordination process.
  • Design-Build experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office program applications.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation ORD/SS10, Bluebeam, FDOT PSEE, Adobe Acrobat.
