About The Position

BJ's Wholesale Club is seeking a part-time Utility Clerk to perform general maintenance and cleaning duties, ensuring high standards of safety and sanitation for members and team members. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness of all club areas, including the sales floor, offices, restrooms, and outdoor grounds and parking lot. A key responsibility is gathering and returning carts and flatbeds from the parking lot, removing debris, and ensuring carts are well-stocked, clean, and in good working order. The Utility Clerk also returns new merchandise to the sales floor and performs various maintenance tasks such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, washing glass, and emptying trash. They are responsible for maintaining outdoor grounds, operating equipment like the floor scrubber and trash compactor safely, and restocking supplies. Minor building repairs are also part of the role, with notification to management for major issues. The position requires adherence to all club policies and procedures, and flexibility to work in other departments as needed. Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete required training and certification processes.
• Prior maintenance or janitorial experience preferred, but not required.
• Prior retail/wholesale experience preferred.
• Must be over 18 to operate equipment and enter age-restricted areas.
• Must be able to move about on hard surfaces.
• Must be able to frequently bend, climb, crawl, pull, reach, stoop, and climb ladders/step stools.
• Must be able to frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to lift and move heavy and/or awkward objects more than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Must be able to use a pallet jack to pull and push pallets.
• Must have frequent exposure to company-authorized cleaning agents.
• Must have occasional exposure to paint and company-authorized chemicals.
• Must be able to work in exposure to both indoor and outdoor temperatures, as well as occasional extreme temperatures in freezers and coolers.
• Must frequently work both indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this job.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and cleaning duties.
• Maintain high standards of safety and sanitation for members and team members.
• Gather and return carts/flatbeds from the parking lot to the club entrance.
• Remove trash or debris from the parking lot, cart corrals, and exterior of the club.
• Ensure carts are well-stocked at the club entrance.
• Verify that all carts are in working order and clean; remove unsuitable carts.
• Return new and unused merchandise to the sales floor.
• Perform maintenance and cleaning duties including wet and dry mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, carpet extracting, washing glass, emptying trash receptacles, and pulling pallets.
• Maintain outdoor grounds of club property including cart corrals, sidewalks, and outdoor trash receptacles.
• Prioritize maintenance and cleaning responsibilities across the club efficiently.
• Operate the floor scrubber, trash compactor, and cardboard baler machines safely and efficiently.
• Restock maintenance/cleaning supplies and ensure supply areas are clean, neat, and organized.
• Perform minor and routine building repairs and notify management of major repair needs.
• Maintain all club policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed.
• Deliver service excellence through all points of contact.
• Resolve and deescalate to address every member concern.
• Ensure a safe and positive environment and experience for members.
• Greet, Anticipate, Appreciate (GAA) members.
• Maintain a friendly and positive attitude.
