About The Position

The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant utility systems supporting the factory. This includes ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, air compressors, glycol systems, HVAC, chilled water, and wastewater treatment. The supervisor ensures all systems meet production demand, regulatory compliance, and safety standards while leading a skilled team of maintenance technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all utility systems: Ammonia refrigeration (industrial compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, and safety valves), Boilers and steam systems supporting pasteurization and CIP operations, Glycol and chilled water systems, Compressed air systems for process and packaging, HVAC and environmental control systems, Water and wastewater treatment (CIP effluent, cooling towers, etc.).
  • Lead and develop the utilities team through daily direction, performance feedback, and technical training.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs for ammonia systems.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, FDA, and local environmental regulations.
  • Partner with production and maintenance teams to ensure utility reliability and minimal downtime during production runs.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators such as energy consumption, refrigeration efficiency, water usage, and steam recovery.
  • Maintain documentation for preventive maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and regulatory audits.
  • Coordinate and manage external contractors during system shutdowns, repairs, and equipment installation.
  • Support capital projects related to utility upgrades, expansions, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure all safety devices, pressure relief systems, and sensors are inspected and tested according to compliance schedules.
  • Serve as the on-site subject matter expert for ammonia refrigeration and boiler operations.
