About The Position

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Utilities Labourer 1 within the Utilities department. This role involves assisting the team in the operation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection systems. The position is located within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People). The RMOW is a vibrant destination resort community and a leader in providing municipal programs and services.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 education.
  • 2 years of experience as a labourer in a construction or maintenance environment.
  • Some knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair of Municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Previous experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Some computer literacy/familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook email and calendar programs.
  • Sufficient strength, stamina, and coordination to perform medium to heavy manual duties in all weather conditions.
  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferably in the field of utility maintenance and/or utility construction.

Responsibilities

  • Driving a truck to transport tools, equipment, materials and staff to and from job sites.
  • Brush clearing on utility installations such as wastewater treatment facility, sewer lift stations, landfill gas flare, and landfill leachate.
  • Performing traffic control “flagging” duties at jobsites.
  • Performing routine cleaning and painting of utility installations.
  • Assisting in the inspection of sanitary sewer manholes.
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned.
