About The Position

This position is responsible for reviewing the impacts of proposed developments on existing water and wastewater systems. The role involves reviewing site and subdivision construction plans, zoning requests, and other community development applications for compliance with county specifications, as well as state and federal requirements. The engineer will evaluate water distribution and wastewater collection systems using field data and standard engineering practices, supplemented with computer hydraulic modeling. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts. The position requires interaction with the public and collaboration with other agencies, consulting firms, and internal/external customers, including hosting or attending meetings with presentations. The role also involves using Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping software to answer public inquiries and collect/interpret system data. There will be training on using Autodesk (InfoWater Pro) to run hydraulic flow tests for the county water system. The engineer will also respond to customer inquiries about extending or connecting to the county water and wastewater systems. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) offering career progression and salary incentives based on performance, qualifications, and experience, as funding permits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Three years of experience in professional engineering
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of water and wastewater engineering
  • Considerable knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Ability to develop and review engineering plans, specifications and technical reports
  • Ability to conduct engineering studies, identify problems, and make recommendations for their resolution
  • Ability to administer contracts and coordinate and review the work of outside consultants
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
