About The Position

Under general direction, performs heavy manual labor and equipment operation for the repair, maintenance, and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Maintains a safe work environment. Essential functions may include performing heavy manual labor and equipment operation including loaders, backhoes, sewer rodders, sewer jet and other equipment associated with the repair, maintenance and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution mains, laterals, valves, valve boxes, meter pits, meters, hydrants, and pressure reducing valves. Locates water lines for excavation. Performs meter reading as needed. Excavates, installs, inspects, flushes, cleans, and repairs wastewater mains, lines, and laterals. Makes taps for sanitary sewer services and locates sewer mains for excavation contractors. Repairs, tests, and maintains sewer lift stations and residential grinder pump systems. Operates and maintains sewer collection system equipment such as the Vactor and camera truck as assigned. Analyzes information and compiles reports using associated computer software. Records pertinent data utilizing a computer or log book, maintenance records, bench sheets, etc. Assists in training while offering support and modeling high performance behavior for new teammates and seasonal workers as assigned. Actively participates in on-call rotation and responds to after-hours emergency calls. Learns and adheres to all safety protocols. Operates in a safe manner at all times including operation of vehicles and equipment. Wears and utilizes appropriate PPE at all times. Promptly reports unsafe conditions, equipment, or operations to a supervisor. Assists and participates in performing tasks within other City Departments as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Experience performing maintenance, public works operations, or construction work in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, and maintenance of those infrastructures.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic maps and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to water systems and waste water collection preferred.
  • This position is subject to non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver’s license with Tanker and Airbrake endorsements preferred; must be able to obtain within 90 days of start date; must have acceptable driving record.
  • Traffic control Flagger certification.
  • Entry - Ability to obtain CCWP Level 1 certification in area of primary responsibility within two (2) years.
