About The Position

The Team Lead operates a business within a business, responsible for the daily operations of the used firearms business. This includes buying, selling, and providing customer service related to firearms. The position involves initiating all 4473 forms, conducting final checks of company, state, and federal forms before firearm transfers, and fostering a customer-satisfaction selling culture to achieve monthly sales goals and maximize profit through pre-owned firearms. The role requires knowledge of fair market values, negotiation skills, research, and firearms identification. The Team Lead manages used firearm inventory, aiming for the highest possible margin on acquired items. They are also responsible for maintaining inventory through daily buying, cultivating leads for off-site purchases, and staying aware of local auctions and estate sales. Compliance with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations is essential, including conducting monthly ATF and company compliance audits. The Team Lead will merchandise used firearms, recommend items for online posting to maximize margin and sales speed, and communicate with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team. Additionally, they will train and educate Outfitters on acquiring and disposing of used firearms, sales trends, policy updates, negotiation skills, and firearm valuation. Participation in ongoing training covering firearms product information, diverse shooting disciplines, systems, compliance, and selling techniques is expected. Providing high-quality customer service on the sales floor, assisting with phone calls, building customer relationships, answering firearm-related questions, quoting prices, and handling customer issues with good judgment and logic are key aspects of the role. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid New York State Pistol Permit at the time of application.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Safely handle firearms.
  • Knowledge of purchasing firearms by either working in the firearms industry or collecting firearms.
  • Good understanding of retail.
  • Knowledge of computers.
  • Background in current firearms models.
  • Able to appraise and know the marketable value of used firearms.
  • Must have a great work ethic.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Local travel to purchase used firearms out of store.
  • Constantly stand and/or walk during shift.
  • Constantly communicate with others to exchange information.
  • Constantly repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Constantly lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds, occasionally move and lift objects up to 100 pounds or more (utilizing a team lift as needed).
  • Occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs, step stools, etc.
  • Occasionally operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Occasionally work in noisy environments.
  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a business within a business, managing the daily operations of the used firearms business.
  • Handles buying, selling, and customer service for used firearms.
  • Initiates all 4473 forms with customers and conducts final checks of applicable company, state, and federal forms prior to firearm transfer.

  • Evaluates and appraises used firearms, exhibiting knowledge of fair market values, professional negotiation skills, research, and firearms identification.
  • Maintains inventory through daily buying and cultivating leads for potential gun collection purchases outside the store.
  • Complies with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations as an employee of an ATF FFL licensed dealer.
  • Conducts monthly ATF compliance audits and company required audits.
  • Merchandises used firearms and is proactive in the arrangement of merchandise.
  • Partners with Internet Specialist recommending firearms for online posting to achieve highest potential margin and sell quickly.
  • Interacts and communicates with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team.
  • Trains and educates Outfitters on acquiring and disposing of used firearms, current sales trends, policy and procedure updates, negotiation skills, and identifying used firearm values.
  • Participates in ongoing training including firearms and shooting product information, diverse shooting discipline awareness, systems training, compliance related training, and selling skills/techniques.
  • Provides highest quality customer service on the sales floor and assisting with customer phone calls.
  • Develops relationships with customers by answering questions about their firearm, quoting prices, and responding to customer issues.
  • Uses good judgment and logic in solving problems and making decisions within the job scope.
