About The Position

This is a part-time Ultrasound Technologist position working 24 hours per week, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays. The role involves performing a comprehensive array of sophisticated non-invasive procedures, independently providing complete and accurate images for diagnostic purposes, documenting patient history, and communicating "Wet Read" reports to physician offices. The position also includes explaining test procedures to patients, ensuring a safe environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards, complying with procedural standards, assisting with patient positioning, and cleaning/sanitizing equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and infection control standards. Additionally, the role provides technical support for the Ultrasound Department's smooth operation, including preparing encounter forms for billing, communicating with other departments for scheduling, interacting with the site manager, attending department meetings, and assisting with phones and scheduling as needed. The technologist is responsible for staying abreast of the latest ultrasound developments through professional memberships, continuing education, and participation in CQI projects.

Requirements

  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 3 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) needs to be obtained within 18 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Ultrasound.
  • Must be able to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age group patients treated.
  • Registered or Registry Eligible
  • Excellent skills in performing abdomen, some OB/GYNE, some vascular and Small Parts ultrasound exams.
  • Excellent knowledge in pathology in the named above.
  • Requires good judgment, needs to be responsible, reliable, and work independently.
  • Needs to have good people skills and patient care skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides complete and accurate images for diagnostic purposes.
  • Documentation of patient history.
  • Communicates “Wet Read” reports to physician offices.
  • Records patient medical information.
  • Explains the test procedures to the patient.
  • Ensures a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazard labels.
  • Complies with procedural standards in the care of our patient population.
  • Assists with proper positioning of patients as necessary(protective measures).
  • Cleans, prepares, and sanitizes all transducers according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection control standards.
  • Applies sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments.
  • Maintains adequate supplies for the needs of the Ultrasound Department.
  • Provides encounter forms for completed procedures which are ready for billing.
  • Communicates with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.
  • Interacts closely with the site Manager providing for a smooth daily operation of the department.
  • Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services.
  • Helps in answering telephones and scheduling patients as needed.
  • Obtains membership in local, state, or national societies.
  • Attends continuing education seminars.
  • Maintains professional accreditation.
  • Participates in CQI projects.
