Nubank is establishing its presence in the US market with an operational C-corporation, tax filing obligations across 13+ states, a growing technology workforce, and a banking license on the horizon. This role is for a builder who will be the first internal Tax professional in the US, responsible for internalizing a function currently managed by external advisors. The individual will design the governance framework, establish controls, and define the future of US tax at Nubank. This role offers a unique combination of technical depth, structural authority, and the opportunity to significantly impact a company at a pivotal moment. It is ideal for a seasoned US tax professional who wants to build rather than just maintain. The day-to-day will be dynamic, reflecting a complex, fast-growing financial operation. Key challenges and activities will include building the internal US Tax Function by transitioning from an outsourced model to an internally governed one, establishing processes, controls, and documentation for federal and state tax compliance. The role involves leading the full compliance cycle for federal and state direct taxes, supporting indirect taxes, and managing the end-to-end calendar of tax filing deadlines and payment obligations. High-precision financial reporting, including ETR reconciliation under ASC 740 and managing deferred tax assets/liabilities, is crucial. The specialist will also handle ancillary obligations like consolidated returns, state/local income tax returns, information returns, and FBAR/FATCA filings. Stakeholder and audit management, including defending tax positions and maintaining SOX controls, will be key. Additionally, coordination of transfer pricing workflows and building the tax infrastructure for a regulated financial institution as Nubank progresses towards its banking license are important aspects of the role.
