About The Position

Summize is a growing legal tech scale-up with a global presence, seeking a commercially minded US People and Talent Business Partner to support its expanding US operations. Based in the Seaport office, this role will be the primary HR contact for US employees, managing daily HR administration, providing advisory services, and assisting with recruitment. The position involves close collaboration with the UK People team and reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, aiming to ensure the US team is supported and engaged.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in an HR generalist, HR Business Partner, or combined HR/TA role, ideally within a tech, SaaS, or scale-up environment.
  • Solid, working knowledge of US employment law, particularly Massachusetts and California state law, FLSA, FMLA, and at-will employment principles.
  • Hands-on experience managing ER cases independently, with good judgment about when to escalate.
  • Previous experience managing and overseeing payroll processes.
  • Proficient in US employee benefits, including health insurance, 401K, etc.
  • Previous experience supporting recruitment campaigns across a range of functions and levels.
  • A collaborative working style and comfort operating in a small team where you'll need to be both strategic and hands-on.
  • Experience working with HRIS, Payroll, and ATS systems (Experience with HiBob, Teamtailor, and PrismHR preferred but not essential).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. You'll be advising employees and managers on sensitive matters regularly so being able to communicate appropriately and use discretion is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a UK-headquartered company and navigating time differences and distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with B2B SaaS businesses.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification (or working towards one).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all US employees on all HR matters, providing pragmatic, empathetic advice grounded in employment law.
  • Manage employee relations cases end-to-end, including performance management, disciplinaries, grievances, and absence, escalating complex matters appropriately.
  • Regularly provide support, advice, and guidance to US people managers.
  • Maintain working knowledge of US federal, Massachusetts, and California state employment law, ensuring Summize policies and practices remain compliant.
  • Produce videos and in-person training materials on policy updates or changes.
  • Process and oversee US payroll via the payroll system.
  • Administer and manage US Employee benefits, such as health insurance and 401K.
  • Support the annual people cycle: performance reviews, compensation benchmarking, benefits renewals, and engagement surveys.
  • Own US onboarding and offboarding processes, partnering with IT, Finance, and hiring managers to deliver a seamless experience.
  • Contribute to the development and localization of People policies, handbooks, and process documentation for a US context.
  • Provide HR data and insights to support decision-making, using the HRIS to keep records accurate and up-to-date.
  • Occasionally support the Lead Talent Acquisition Manager on recruitment for US-based recruitment campaigns across commercial and operational functions.
  • Partner with the Lead Talent Acquisition Manager and hiring managers in the US to build clear role profiles, develop market salary benchmarking data, and support interview processes.
  • Champion a positive candidate experience at every touchpoint, representing Summize's brand and culture with care.
  • Support employer branding initiatives in the US market, contributing ideas to grow Summize's profile as a great place to work.
