Under the direction of the Senior Director for Mental and School Health and as a part of a multidisciplinary team, the Urgent Care Mental Health Specialist will provide on-site and remote direct therapeutic services to pediatric patients, ages 5 – 26, and their families, and adults, including assessments, treatment plans and discharge planning. The specialist will also engage with staff and families in the urgent care center to provide information, education, brief consultations and referrals for patients and staff seeking assistance with mental health issues. The specialist will be available for consultations both virtually and in person when not otherwise in treatment sessions. The specialist will be proactively engaged with families and staff to promote mental health services, provide timely information and provide education and direction for staff. The specialist will also provide staff and families with referrals to PM Mental Health services or other needed services as appropriate. This role provides pediatric and adult mental health therapy as part of a large, multi-disciplinary behavioral health team in an innovative pediatric version of the integrative primary/mental health care model. The specialist will maintain weekly scheduled therapy appointments, complete required documentation and paperwork including clinical assessments, treatment planning, and updating of patient medical records within 48 hours of patient visits. The role requires utilizing standardized tools (PHQ9, GAD7 etc.) to identify patients that can benefit from ongoing MH services and help families navigate treatment, making rapid assessments and following through on recommendations in a timely manner. The specialist will demonstrate deep knowledge of various mental health issues and symptoms and assist staff in UC to identify patients demonstrating mental health needs, as well as a deep knowledge of child development and assist families and staff who verbalize concerns to determine appropriate assessment and next steps. The specialist will professionally represent PM Mental Health when meeting with local providers, hospitals and payers, make independent clinical decisions with a minimum of guidance, and demonstrate deep understanding to the intersection of mental health and physical health issues, acting as an expert in various modalities of short-term therapy.
