About The Position

Supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for construction inspection of City contractor work; ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures and perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Essential and Supplemental Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for conducting construction inspection activities. Establish schedules and methods for providing construction inspection services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures. Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures. Perform technical and complex tasks of the work unit; compare plans with work in progress and identify deficiencies. Inspect capital improvement projects in progress of construction to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, contracts and safe construction practices. Maintain daily reports on all projects to verify the use of methods, materials, construction progress, delays, accidents, property damage, instructions, equipment and personnel. Coordinate scheduling with contractors and utility representatives to identify hazards, nuisances, or damages to private or public property. Coordinate field and laboratory construction material testing; review test results for abnormalities or concerns; make recommendations and take corrective action as necessary. Identify possible ordinance violations, or corrections and ensure that approved projects are constructed according to City standards. Participate in the selection of construction inspection staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public works construction inspection. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in construction management, or construction engineering
  • Five (5) years experience in construction inspection or construction management
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico's Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire
