About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Urban Planner/Grants Specialist to join our Resilience and Emergency Management Team. This is an entry-level position and is based out of Los Angeles, California. The role involves preparing, organizing, and supporting the production of various planning documents related to emergency management, resilience, hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and grant applications. This includes assisting with reports, technical memoranda, funding applications, presentations, and client deliverables. The position also supports grant program activities by collecting applicant information, reviewing documentation, maintaining files, tracking deadlines, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. Data collection, research, and analysis related to disaster impacts, community needs, and funding eligibility are also key aspects of the role. The Urban Planner will prepare assigned sections of planning documents, grant narratives, and reports, collaborating with project managers and subject matter experts. Maintaining project tracking tools and researching regulations and best practices are also responsibilities. Additionally, the role supports market growth initiatives through research, client intelligence gathering, and proposal development, including preparing graphics, tables, and other business development materials.

Requirements

  • 0-2 Years of professional experience in a related technical field.
  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Accounting, or Finance degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and support the production of emergency management, resilience, hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and grant-related planning documents, including reports, plans, technical memoranda, funding applications, presentations, and client deliverables.
  • Assist in preparing, organizing, and producing emergency management, resilience, hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and grant-related planning documents.
  • Support the development of reports, plans, technical memoranda, funding applications, meeting materials, and other client deliverables under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Support grant program activities by completing assigned tasks for FEMA, HUD, state, and local funding programs.
  • Collect applicant information, review documentation for completeness, maintain grant files, track deadlines, and support compliance with applicable program requirements and eligibility criteria.
  • Collect, research, and analyze data related to disaster impacts, community needs, mitigation opportunities, resilience priorities, and funding eligibility.
  • Compile information from established sources, summarize findings, and assist in evaluating project alternatives, funding strategies, and implementation considerations.
  • Prepare assigned sections of planning documents, grant narratives, project worksheets, funding summaries, situation reports, and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, planners, grants managers, and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with client requirements.
  • Maintain project tracking tools, grant management logs, action item registers, stakeholder contact lists, and document control systems.
  • Support timely reporting, quality assurance, version control, and coordination across project teams.
  • Research federal, state, and local regulations, grant guidance, resilience best practices, emergency management policies, and funding opportunities.
  • Summarize requirements and support the development of materials that advance planning, compliance, grant development, and program implementation efforts.
  • Support Resilience and Emergency Management market growth initiatives through market research, client intelligence gathering, opportunity tracking, and proposal development.
  • Compile background information on clients and competitors, support capture planning efforts, maintain pipeline data, draft proposal content, and develop qualification materials.
  • Prepare graphics, tables, maps, dashboards, briefing materials, resumes, project descriptions, and capability statements for planning documents, grant applications, client presentations, and business development efforts.
  • Coordinate with technical staff, project managers, and marketing teams to ensure materials are accurate, visually effective, and aligned with business objectives.
