About The Position

This position is for an undergraduate faculty member in the Urban and Environmental Planning & Policy (UEPP) Department at Western Washington University. The department offers programs in urban planning/design, sustainability, studio courses, and environmental/natural resource policy. The programs emphasize engaged pedagogies and critical perspectives, with a focus on the nexus of urban, natural, and environmental planning and policy. Requirements

  • Master's or doctorate in a related field from an accredited institution. Under exceptional circumstances, a BA or BS with a minimum of 5 years of experience may be considered.
  • Evidence of community designs, models, exhibitions, community service learning, and other applied works.
  • Demonstrated abilities in planning and policy history, methods, applications, and theory and related planning and policy fields.
  • Demonstrated continued learning of current and advanced knowledge and practices in planning and policy fields.
  • Demonstrated continued engagement in related discipline and/or professional activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate environments that are equitable and inclusive of students, faculty, and staff with diverse social identities and backgrounds.
  • Ability and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the department.
  • Record of supporting the success of students or professionals traditionally underrepresented in the field.
  • Compliance with immunization policies, including Proof of Rubeola Measles Immunity within 60-days of hire.
  • Employment eligibility verification as required by the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check, including a sexual misconduct background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching, research, and/or service within the planning and public policy professions.
  • Skill in experiential and critical pedagogies suitable to classroom and/or field settings.
  • Ability to manage field practicum logistics and planning, including with community partner organizations or other entities.
  • Successful experience using an online learning management system, such as Canvas.
